this wins quote of the week. This pretty much opened me up to non-pretentious indie music (IM LOOKING AT YOU NMH! YOURE NOT AS GOOD AS EVERYONE SAYS!). But mostly its thanks to them I found TSIAM, Nedelle, and others.

antony & the johnsons (suggested by other people on here) and deerhoof (especially deerhoof... i love deerhoof)
xiu xiu has also taught me that i, a 27 year old man, am able to act like a 15 year-old girl on occasion
oh, and xiu xiu gave me that wonderfully awkward moment, when i get back to a guy's place, and we're starting to fool around, and suddenly i hear: "um, why is there a dead bird tattooed on your hip?"

i really like revielle by deerhoof alot. and apple o'. those are the only two i have, but they're helluv good.
xiu xiu helped me to make a good friend. there was a facebook group at my school for xiu xiu and there were like three people on it and one of them emailed me and we started hanging out and we do all sorts of silly things and are fabulous.

haha that's awesome. what is a good deerhoof song/album? i am still im the mist about the goodness of deerhoof. for albums, i'd suggest reveille or the runners fourmy fave deerhoof song is probably "siriusstar" off of the runners four, but another popular one with fans is "panda panda panda panda" but i would really suggest downloading an entire album and trying it out... for most people, it takes a few tracks to "get it," as with most off-kilter music listening to xiu xiu for awhile, deerhoof keeps popping up... a number of deerhoof members have contributed to albums (including the recent production cred on the airforce), and in an email/interview i did with jamie years ago, he told me that deerhoof were one of the primary inspirations behind beginning xiu xiu; one of those, "wow, someone is really doing something similar to what i want to do" kinda things (my "-", not jamie's... i'm too lazy to dig up the old email), from the way it sounded... anyways, i definitely suggest checking out deerhoof, although seeing them live is somehow even more amazing

music-wise, i got into the jim yoshii pile-up, this song is a mess, the dead science, yellow swans, 7 year rabbit cycle, badgerlore, and everything else on absolutely kosher and FPS.
and one of my favourite quotes came from yvonne chen - "listening to grim music, veiled or not, can make you feel less alone if you are feeling grim yourself."
they were the first queer band i really got into, and i identified etc with the lyrics. "bunny gamer" hit me hard the first time i heard it.
and i liked deerhoof before i heard of xiu xiu. is that weird?

But I love 'em both so slap my ass and call me pretentious
