i love the fact that xiu xiu put out material so fast. if you can do it and still make great song, more power to you! the one thing i would change is jamie doesn't like his voice very much so he hides behind in the mix too far. he should bring it out more and hopefully with this new producer, he'll do it. also, levels are a bit off at time, like the start of mousey toy to the end. if you want to hear the bass tones that start the song off without hurting your ears to hear the cymbal-filled ending, you have to manually change the volume during the song, and that's the job of the producer or mixer to do before the song is finalized. maybe it fits into xiu xiu's theories of love and pain, i dunno.

aw, that beat in the a promise version is so catchy! plus, the refrain with the layered vocals makes it that much more haunting. but i respect your opinion. i think both versions are real good. can't go wrong with brooklyn dodgers.

i agree with the caraleebot of helsabot thing as well... the fag patrol version of helsabot is one of my favorite xiu tracks, and i just don't think caralee fits it... i think her singing the ending chorus of "sad pony guerilla girl" though is perfect

my friend just suggested XXL, but she was mad at our inclusion of "helsabot of caraleebot"

Losing the full-time gamelan section. AGREED!! RIP massive chime action. bring back the gamelans, dammit. its one of the things that got me into xiu xiu. i love devendra. and that split. i never fully got into fabulous muscles. i fell in love with the title track and a few others, but for the first time i wasnt like "wow i love this whole album"

i will take this statement to my grave:
"Knife play is the best album ever written" especially for a debut.
like, there are early knife play and a promise fans, and then there are fabulous muscle and la foret fans.
i love all their stuff, but their first three releases are the most important records i own.

Losing the (I think its baritone) sax. I loved it when I heard XITSJ and on some tracks on Knife play. I want that instrument back in a new song in all its glory. Fabulous muscles was my first Xiu Xiu album (thank you back alley canadian record shops and questionable content) but now its probably last on my list. Well, second to last, I'm not too much of a Fag Patrol fan.
