Yeah, that's right, it's been a decade already for East Van's infamous anarcho-post-everything-core punks, Submission Hold. After ten years of travelling all over Europe, Canada, and U.S., packing all-ages venues, and sharing the stage with the likes of Fugazi, the 'Hold are still going strong.
To celebrate, Submission Hold is having a 10-year anniversary show at Video In: Tuesday July 1st Video In Studios 1965 Main Street 8pm $6 all-ages Featuring: Submission Hold 1905 (female-fronted political punk from Washington DC) Harrow (political hardcore from Vancouver) and Painted Youth (emotional punk from Vancouver)
For those not familiar with Submission Hold's sound, they combine intense female vocals with various musical influences - the foundation being punk of course, but also drawing on everything from improvisational jazz to Eastern European traditions. The 'Hold is a decidedly political band - and not shy about expressing their anarchist and feminist-oriented views on the state of the world and their emotional reactions to it.
Mark your calendars kids, and see you there.
Cheers, -Brian (lead singer of Harrow and promoter for the show)
