ok, so the show last night was pretty incredible. it was, as joe stated, only a two-piece... here's the setlist:
-brian the vampire -bog people -pox -suha -mousey toy -ale -i luv the valley -saturn -yellow raspberry -apistat commander -muppet face -sad pony guerilla girl (with caralee singing the final chorus)
in addition to all the cd's (including both the US and UK releases of la foret & accordion solo), they had the repress of knife play and the split with devendra... unfortunately, they didn't have the double 10" of la foret... there was a problem with shipping, and they're waiting to get the record sleeves. they'll have them for sale in a few days.
they have a few new t-shirt designs, but i didn't pick one up this tour, so i couldn't describe any in great depth. but from what i remember, one has the carnivalesque "xiu xiu" in pink, and another had a maple leaf (like the canadian flag) with a sad, crying face...

The setlist was fucking incredible. I thought I'd never get to hear Brian the Vampire live. I have to say that my favorites were probably Muppet Face and Yellow Raspberry. I was up in the very front behind my friend (on Jamie's side).
Not sure if anyone noticed this, but before the show started the sign outside said "XIV XIV." 14 14 = best band ever. After we got out they had changed it back to "XIU XIU."
As for merchandise, the new shirts are the best I've ever seen! I got the "carnivalesque" one (although the smallest size they seemed to have was a YL...eck oh well). My friends got another one that had "xiu xiu" near the shoulder and a pink gun design down both the sides. They also had the blue "xiu mutha fuckin xiu" shirt and many others as well. I also got one of the new pin designs.
I was really happy because Jamie remembered me. I had given him a Smiths pin in the past and he was telling me about how he still has it on his equipment.
He signed my copy of La Foret with: "Tractor tractor. This spell will get you through the night. <3 JS"
Picures to come in the very near future.

yeah, i did notice the xiv xiv thing, but i guess someone said something, cause when i went up to the lounge, the window was open next to the sign and they had obviously just changed it
i thought it was kinda funny that the setlist followed a pattern... 1 old, 2 new, 1 old, 2 new, etc.. of course, sad pony girl broke the pattern
does anyone know if the show sold out? it was pretty packed in there by the time xiu went on

Maybe this is a dumb question, but what have Xiu Xiu been sounding like on this tour? Acoustic, or electric with blasts of noise like on the albums?
Also, how long have they been playing? Is each show about 45-60 minutes or something like that? I'm only asking because I've got a 2 hour drive to see them next week and I want to make sure it's worth it.

i would say they're definately more on the electric/noise side of things, although some songs (like sad pony guerilla girl) are still on the acoustic side... it was a nice variety
the show in l.a. was probably about an hour (maybe a little over) with no encore

Excellent times, and the end of the show was amazing. Hope Jamie took to the Tat without too much awkward silence. [glow=red,2,300]XoXo, Glenn[/glow]

they had a v neck "xiu xiu for life" t shirt that was on display and it had an american apparel tag, however the youth large(my girlfriends purchase) wasn't an american apparel shirt sooo it may vary by sizes

i felt bad for the merch guy because he was so tired. apparantely he had just come in from seattle?
i didn't go to the show last night at the Che Cafe but since i go to school at ucsd, my friends that went gave me an update...
So according to my friend, everything was great....except for these two really loud drunk girls who screamed during all of the quiet parts of the songs. According to her, Jamie seemed pretty annoyed by the whole situation. In the end, another girl in the audience told the drunkards that they should leave. Their response was something along the lines of "we're just trying to have a good time and listen to muuscciicic" (slurred speech and all). Jamie: "Well, I tend to agree more with the first person." Best. thing. ever.

liontails, strangelove, todd...you're all so goddamn lucky to see the beginning of this tour. i can't begin to explain how envious i am of all of you. i have to wait over three months to see them at a place that's five hours away. and there's a strong chance that this incredible setlist will change by then.
i am also very curious about how the new shirts are looking. especially the carnivalesque and crying leaf ones. pictures anyone?
