Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman, I'm A Machine But maybe I'm biased because I play bass.

aw yay, one of my favorite joanna newsom songs. i like it. the orchestral sounds that come in at "i was blue" are wonderful, is that all just done on a synth?

Mine too. Not a synth. String 4tet. Thanks yeah after listening to it a few more times my incorrectness in thinking it was a synth became glaringly obvious to me. do you have any other stuff online i could check out?

Oh! Other good music (though it's mostly from Toronto):
Femme Fatale (far better than DFA1979, though almost the same thing, with even the same people)
HANK (www.weepingtruckers.org)... if you like The Go! Team but think it's too smarmy (as I do)
No Dynamics (but they don't have a recording yet)
The Centimeters (from L.A., the only band better at vibrato than Xiu Xiu)
The Dead Science (catch their live show!)
Les Georges Leningrad (avoid their live show, buy the record)
That's all I can think of right now.
