my first xiu xiu songs were mp3's i got off of soulseek of "suha", "i broke up", and "hives hives"... those were the tracks referenced in the pitchfork review of _knife_play_ that a friend directed me to, so i checked them out... i instantly went out and bought _knife_play_ and was hooked, and i got _a_promise_ when it was released... after the release of _a_promise_, i came here and started collecting old titsj & ibopa stuff, as well as singles, vinyl, etc
so basically, it was the pitchfork review that got me first interested, but it was a friend online that suggested i might like the band and sent me the link

like many others i was introduced to xiu xiu by way of the internet. a friend sent me a link to their mp3's on the kill rock stars page. he said i'd probably like it & i instantly loved it. so i downloaded everything off of soulseek & d.c. then went out & bought everything. now i'm enjoying making compilations for my friends of all the best xiu xiu songs (in my opionion of course.) most don't like it , but hey some do nate from the healthy home

someone (i can never remember who) told me to download "i broke up"
well, as soon as i heard "it was not posed... it messed me... UP" my brain immediately flipped on "love-mode" and you all know how the rest goes (finding everything you can, going to great lengths to see him/them live, etcetcetc)

internet-person called eee sent me an mp3 of "I broke up" which made me laugh, and then KRS or 5RC put up an mp3 of "sad pony guerilla girl" which was even better.

I was at a Pinback show in SF, and I bought "knife play" on a whim, since the band was from San Jose (I grew up in Gilroy) and I liked the name. It took me a while to get into it, "hives hives" was the first track that really got me. Once I got into it, I was hooked. I'd listen to it while I filed at this horrible insurance agency I was temping for. Then Jaime moved into my apartment for a few months, recorded "fag patrol" and the song "fabulous muscles" in his room, and I think he cursed the room he lived in. Both roommates I have had after him have been horrible. The current one was stabbed in the arm with a broken bottle a week ago by his girlfriend while I was out, and I haven't seen him since. There's blood on the wall, bed, and floor right now... Needless to say, I miss Jaime, even if he did turn all the furniture in the living room upside down while he was drunk.

I first heard Xiu Xiu on college radio in Pittsburgh in the winter of 2001/2002. Most of the tracks on Knife Play were played for a good month or so before the album was officially released, with Suha and Luber getting the most air play. However, I didn't buy the album until I saw Xiu Xiu perform live that March on their first national tour, and I was instantly hooked. The full-Xiu Xiu band experience is still a highlight in all of the concerts/shows I've ever seen!

I first heard of xiu xiu in some review of Knife Play when it was released or a live show or something, I can't remember (probably a 5RC or KRS e-mail). I didn't finally see them until a 5rc showcase in Feb, 2002, @ Bottom of the Hill in San Fran. The line-up consisted of Deerhoof, Hella, Slim Moon (solo), & Xiu Xiu. All the bands were on my "too check out (more)list", so I went (solo) after working & being at school all day and feeling exhausted. Couldn't pass up answering all the curiousity. It was one of those shows that noone was at (empty!! can you believe it?!), & you feel everyone should have been there! All the bands blew me away, and it took me some time to absorb xiu xiu. i didn't get the album until a couple months down the road. once i could hear those songs again & recall the live show, i was hooked. Can't get enough now! I've bought everything as soon as it comes out & hear them early if possible (F.M. is awesome!). Unfortunately I could never attend any shows after that until the equipment was stolen. I catch Jamie everytime he plays here in S.F. now, & thoroughly enjoy it everytime. But I miss the whole band sound. I ( & the many I have turned on to XX since my intro) eagerly await a full line-up Xiu Xiu tour (hopefully not getting my hopes up ) or local shows. Possible?
