well, i have just returned from the los angeles show, so i thought i'd start a thread, both as a warning for those going to future shows, and as a place to discuss -take shitloads of cash to see them. they have 4 different shirts, both albums on cd and lp, chapel of the chimes on cd, and fag patrol on cd. every item was $10 except the chapel of the chimes ep, which was $8... unfortunately, i didn't bring enough cash, but i did pick up a few items. items of note: -i had to have the white t-shirt with porn image of naked man ejaculating "xiu xiu" on the wall... very classy... can't wait to wear this one to my queer theory class... -it was very difficult not to grab the one with a slashed wrist that proudly proclaimed "xiu xiu forever"... -"fag patrol" cd. very nice packaging- handmade, limited to 1000 copies (and numbered), pretty impressive- can't wait to listen to it... the show, unfortunately, was a bit of a let down... it was pretty amazing yet disorienting to see jamie so close, but the sound quality was poor, the crowd were mostly there for their friends, and jamie went on so late that he was only allowed to play five songs and the audience actually laughed when he screamed "this is the worst vacation ever!"... but perhaps that wasn't a bad thing; they were obviously uncomfortable with it... oh, and one last thing... he is very hot in person... i thought he was kinda cute in the pictures, but he's a stud! and i'm gonna stop rambling now and go to bed... john

Cool. You have a setlist?

even though it was only five songs, i don't.. i believe a few of the songs were new, actually, and if they were the same, he sounds very different acoustic- and i'll admit that i'm not as familiar with a promise as i am with knife play. he did play "sad pony guerilla girl" and "i broke up", but he didn't have a paper set list to steal to be sure of the others. since it was only him, he just played what he wanted, although "i broke up" was a request from someone in the audience. he was setting up for his sixth song when the guy running the event announced that the show was over.

Is "Fag Patrol" going to be sold outside of the live shows? I hope Absolutely Kosher has some to sell. Do you think you could rip it, strangelove? Or at least give us a tracklist.
Thanks.

well, i've already ripped it to my mp3 player, but i'm not sure how i'd go about making it available online... however, i will post the track list here:
1-helsabot 2-king earth, king earth 3- 20,000 deaths for eidelyn gonzales, 2000 deaths for jamie peterson 4-dr. troll 5-jennifer lopez 6-brooklyn dodgers 7-asleep 8-i broke up 9-nieces pieces
it's an interesting cd... not nearly as noisy as the lps, this is a very quiet collection of xiu xiu tracks

Nice! I was just listening to the Ten in the Swear Jar alb. this evening, singing along to "Helsabot". I wonder, is that "Asleep" song possibly a Smiths cover?
About getting it online, you could d/l Soulseek (www.slsk.org) and then post your username.

ok, i can't get aim to work on this computer... it sucks... so i just threw all the tracks on my brothers kazaa account, and i'm off to have dinner with my boyfriend, so if you'd like to get the files, check the account character20@kazaa and the files should be accessible tonight, although you'll have to pore your way through his tupac and eminem crap...sorry, but it's the best i can do at the moment

I really enjoyed xiu xiu's set at gilman, despite the fact that it not only started late, but ended abruptly.
I was surprised to see only jamie up there, but then i guess it was because of the equip. dilemma...which must be soo frustrating.
I thought it his solo acoustic set was kind of intimate and relaxing- but at the same time held the bands intensity and depth- which I feared would be lacking...so i was surprised!
hmm it did piss me off to hear the crowd laugh during "this is the worst vacation ever..." in i broke up...even if it was awkward for them...it was pretty unnecessary. There are not many people that can scream that on a fucking stage, so i admire Jamie's ability to do so.
Oh man, though- i didnt bring enough cash either! wanted everything...haha. Especially that black-on-black shirt. ooh.
fag patrol sounds great... I'm going to try to compile it from kaaza right now, untill i can buy it on cd.

perhaps you take it too seriously... laughing can be a perfectly acceptable form of respect, and I am proud to say that I laughed my ass off at this line down in LA. I thought it was fucking awesome the way jamie delivered it and I felt so elated and free that a fountain of love came pouring out of my throat. it was beautifull to laugh at such honesty.
