I don't know how the band wants this information to be spread, but...
apparently someone stole all of Xiu Xiu's music equipment the other day in Seattle. Not exactly clear on what the band plans on doing, but I do know that the US tour is potentially postponed.
btw, my name is Karl, I'm a friend of the band and probably close to the oldest Xiu Xiu fan registered here. (not bragging, it's just the darn truth, i.e. IBOPA and ten in the swear jar days...edit: actually, nevermind I see some people here I know that go back as far)
I'm a bevy of information, but don't pick on me.
I like to share though, so, "hello."
I hope the band doesn't mind me mentioning this :/

Hi. I'm Collin..That is extremely depressing news. Actually, the equipment was stolen here in Missoula Montana. They played their show at Jay's Upstairs (I loved the show, I just wish they could have played longer) and parked at an Albertson's after the show to leave it there for the night. In the morning it was discovered that everything was gone. I DJ at the college radio here in missoula, and I heard everything I am telling you from the management there. ANyway, the radio here in Missoula is doing hourly reports on the incident and hopefully someone with a kind heart will call in...There is a concert here in Missoula on this coming tuesday and apparently all the proceeds are going to xiu xiu. Stay warm.colllin

I went to school in Missoula for a year and half (Dude, Lindsey Karl, what's up?) and that fucking sucks a dick.
Missoula's a sweet ass little town. I can only hope this doesn't prevent other bands from playin there.

Argh! This makes me so angry! Fucking thieves! Dammit! I have the feeling that even if they got monetary help their instruments might be very hard to replace. I'm a fairly new fan (saw then with Rasputina in SF and instantly fell under Jamie's spell). I missed them the next time they played because it was a 21+ show, had classes the next day and no one would go with me. I was looking forward to seeing them at Gilman here in Berkeley, a day before my birthday.
I feel so bad for the band...
C'est la fucking vie.

be glad you've at least had a chance to see them, and you still do, since the berkeley show appears to still be scheduled. i only recently fell in love with this music, and i'm in l.a. - the last date of the tour that was cancelled :(

yea, the gilman show should be really nice. I'm looking forward to catching it. I noticed the Angels of Light (ex-swans project) is playing the bottom of the hill in april too...I better look that up and see if I can catch both.
btw, it's nice to have these distant conversations with people who are fans of the band.

this is the most depressing news I've heard in a long time. I heard it through the grapevine in grand rapids or ann arbor or something. jamie- that shit sucks. the intima is playing jays in a week or two and I promise that we'll search far and wide (and we WONT park at albertsons). our sympathies are with you. we're floored.
x, themba (and the intima in washington DC)

Hot Karl! How are the Shrimpers doing? I'm from Montana as well. Not a XiuXiu fan or anything, I've never actually heard them. If I were 21, I'd go see them at the Crocodile Cafe here in Seattle. Oh well...

there's a few pictures of a live performance on the yahoo group that show a great deal of various percussive type instruments such as cowbells and and such, not to mention traditional synths etc. here's a link: photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/xiuxiunews/lst

Do I know you Kyle? I am (not proudly) the karl who mythologically or not was dubbed the nickname hot karl by members of xiu xiu years ago...I've always been wierded out by xiu xiu fans who know that nickname of mine and people in general who are cultish about the band. Humor me with any more rumors, it's fun. anyway, I was at the Slims show in San Francisco, earlier this year, here's some pictures for you to peruse: www.dotter.tk/photos/xiuxiuI've also done a lot of multimedia projects and audio things with the band if anyone is interested, contact me here: k@dotter.tk maybe some of us will meet each other at the gilmans show and see how similarly crazy we all are about the band? best. Hot Karl! How are the Shrimpers doing? I'm from Montana as well. Not a XiuXiu fan or anything, I've never actually heard them. If I were 21, I'd go see them at the Crocodile Cafe here in Seattle. Karl, I'm kyle of the former missoula band KNOWNFORNOTHING. We have relocated to Seattle, because there's more to life than Jay's upstairs. How do you know XiuXiu? That's kinda weird! Do you live in San Fran now or something? What happened to The Shrimpers? Oh, and Jared/Mikhail think this is all quite the coincidence and say hello!
