what is the connection between these two bands? I read somewhere that aaron russell is from deerhoof and that he also plays on 'a promise'. i know i could just research this myself, probably on the 5RC site, but i just want to talk about my two favorite bands right now. 'apple o' is some bom-ass shit. anyone agree?

i'm pretty sure there's a connection between them through absolutely kosher records...

deerhoof is amazing. and i agree apple o is some bom ass shit!!! deerhoof and xiu xiu have played a lot of shows together. greg from deerhoof guested on knife play and aaron russel who is in the band theteethe with greg played on a promise, jamie from xiu xiu recorded bits and pieces of the deerhoof album reveille. both deerhoof and xiu xiu are on 5rc.

ok, so i downloaded some songs by deerhoof after seeing this thread, and although i can't say that i like them yet, i do feel that this band deserves some further delving. any suggestions as to which album i should pick up? pitchfork media, who i love, says reveille is their best, but they put _a promise_ above _knife play_, and i'm still debating that one
thanks for any help

I really like some Deerhoof songs... genius at times, but some of their songs just aren't good. It's frustrating because they come so close at times to be perfect, but don't just make it. Along with Xiu Xiu, they are my two favourite bands at the moment, making 5RC my favourite label.

i recently saw deerhoof, and i was quite impressed. the friend that i dragged along with me was not amused and actually walked out of the show and waited for me outside, but the band were really quite impressive live, although they definately sound better on cd... the music has finally grown on me, now that i've given it a chance; i even tried to sing along a few times (not suggested :} )
