I like it, but it's certainly not his best (in my opinion). It has some GREAT tunes, but I think it suffers a little (Support our troops is one weak spot). Is it really his "most accessible," as a lot of people say? The subject matter seems incredible personal (as in all about him and his immediate friends/family/lovers) as opposed to some records were he branches out to other "characters." I don't know, I'm kind of just rambling, but I would rather listen to A Promise or DGIHM or Knife Play over Fab Muscles.
IS ANYONE OUT THERE? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I wouldn't call it the best album, but I'd say it's one of the more accessible/poppy albums, and it certainly has the closest thing Xiu has to a hit single "I Luv the Valley OH!". So I think that's why it has the legacy of being the best known album. I think back in the day, most fans seemed to consider The Air Force the strongest album (or was that just me?), but A Promise, Knife Play, and Fag Patrol held some top spots.
But I think their catalog is too varied now to really choose a "best" album, and there are too many emotional ties to lock down a favorite (song or album) at any one time - I feel like my preferences change constantly

which is your favorite right now? Do you still listen to them often? I've been going strong almost every day since I first fell for them ~8months ago lol. I do really like the air force a lot, it's a great album. In terms of pop/accesibility I feel like DGIHM is way more poppy/accessible tho than FM

I go through phases of listening a lot or not at all - most recently, I went through a DGIHM phase (after a REALLY long period of listening to the Knife almost exclusively). Fabrizio Palumbo Retaliation fascinated me when it first came out, and I am still fascinated by it. Seeing them the other night made me put Knife Play, A Promise and Fag Patrol back into my car, but there's a new Perfume Genius album coming out, so we'll see

I think back in the day, most fans seemed to consider The Air Force the strongest album (or was that just me?), but A Promise, Knife Play, and Fag Patrol held some top spots. When The Air Force came out it seemed SO FRESH, compact and just solidly made. It was one of the first albums that I felt was like a perfect piece of work as a whole. I still think it is Xiu Xiu at their most 'disciplined'. Side tangent, but I think La Foret should get a lot more attention. I understand why it isn't talked about much, but that tour (when Jamie plucked / went crazy as fuck on the autoharp) hold the best live moments for me.

Just wanted to say PV reissued FM for RSD, I guess it's remastered. I just picked a copy up tonight!

Late, but... very good question. With the exception of "I Luv the Valley" there aren't many obvious pop tunes on there- not nearly as many as Knife Play (which has "Suha," "Poe Poe," and "I Broke Up") or Angel Guts (which has "Stupid in the Dark," "Black Dick," and "Botanica de Los Angeles"). I don't quite get it. It's a good album, but not the best or catchiest.
