Hi everyone, I thought I'd indulge in a little shameless self-promotion and let you know that I have a review of Knife Play up at my music website. You can find it here if you're interested: medium.washcoll.edu/reviews/atrocityexhibition.comAll feedback, good and bad, is welcome. Thanks, Lou

Thanks. I'll put up a review of A Promise (and probably Fag Patrol too) sooner or later.

thanks for posting this. i thought the personal touch at the end:
"If you're open to Xiu Xiu's brand of music, it will likely be a lasting obsession"
was funny, but very appropriate. however, i found it to be strange that you completely ignored the influence of bands like joy division and the smiths on the melodic side of the album, especially considering the sticker on the cd
other than that, though, great review

Thanks for responding. You're right- In my effort to portray Xiu Xiu's music as original, I failed to acknowledge their influences, which is sort of silly considering the sticker comes right out and names them. While I do mention how Xiu Xiu "gathered their inspiration from post-punk's junkyard," this was a vague allusion to Joy Division, The Smiths, etc. I think that, despite their influences, Xiu Xiu don't really end up sounding like any other band (you might agree); I didn't want to name any specific influences in order to make that point clearer. I see your point though. Thanks again!

actually, the only friends who have responded positively to xiu xiu are the same ones who have mild to extreme obsessions with either joy division, the smiths, or morrisey, and i first got them to listen to the band by saying "imagine the melodic beauty of joy division or the smiths crossed with drawings of ot era neaubauten noise, although not really", and every fan of either of those groups perked up and paid attention. :)
