I've basically decided to start this thread because I had a talk with my sister yesterday about my best bud (neilsucks).
Neil and I have been friends for two and a half years and my parents still don't like him too much. So I was bitching about it to my sister and I asked what she thought of him and she started dodging the question. Either way it ended up with her and I talking about how everyone assumes things about people before they know them based on looks.
My sister started telling me if she saw Neil on the street she would say hi to him, but if she were with friends she wouldn't acknowledge him unless he were to initiate it, but even then she wouldn't introduce him to her friends because she doesn't want to be associated with "those kind of people". This is coming from a 23 year old. She was telling me how when she sees someone like Neil she thinks about Hastings, and him doing acid and heroin and shit, and that she wants to have nothing to do with him.
Our discussion basically ended in me realizing that I come from a family of assholes. I know that I judge people on the way they look, but the difference is, I give them a chance regardless. My family, however, judged Neil the moment they met him, and two and a half years later have yet to warm up to him.
I guess I never realized how ignorant some people are, and so it's bothering me a lot now that I think about it. I mean, my sister had the nerve to tell me that I wasn't going to make any friends if I hang out with Neil because everyone will assume I am an acid-head because apparently he looks like one.
Does anyone have any thoughts on it?
