not talking about 'remember the titans'. something with real substance that changed the way you look at things.
here's a few on my list:
pi FIGHT CLUB (the best counter-cultural film ever made in my opinion) american history x the doors apocalypse now

Pi Requiem for a Dream American History X (that is a friggin awesome movie) Boys Don't Cry Bowling for Columbine
A lot of the movies that are based on real events are moving for me. Oh, and so do movies where animals get hurt or lost...like Benji.

It's a bit cliché, but I'll say Requiem, American History X, Fight Club (I can somewhat agree with what you said, Brandon), High Fidelity, I suppose the Matrix before I saw it 16848892865 times, some Hitchcock movies and Memphis Belle.

holy shit, i can't believe i forgot gummo. that movie REALLY REALLY fucked me up. ABSOLUTELY brilliant filmmaking, and the director never even went to film school. stu, did you see bully? i hear it's good, i've been meaning to rent it. good call mr bad with 'happiness'. i love genuinely social conscious movies with something important to say... like total recall... or independence dayyyuhhhh, *shut up brandon, you're supposed to try to make everyone think you only like pretentious high art* i heard that darren arnofsky (pi, requiem for a dream) was to be directing the new batman movie, i think that has changed since though...

pi is about a mathematician trying to find a pattern in the stock market.. to possibly base an equation on and predict it.. along the way some government economist types are trying to get at what he's uncovered.. and he's also aquainted with a student of kabbalah who is also eventually after his accidentally uncovered secret... it's great
