seeing as how its supposed to be a music oriented site...
do shitty bands playing shitty music actually make music shitty, and bum you off of music? does this push your own potential for creative output to try and balance the problem? or totally distract and ruin it? and further more susan, for those "musicians" out there, do you really feel like your actually creatung something new?

there is something to be said for minamilisim..ie..less is more.. if you are a musician its easy to get your own moods confused with whatever youre listening to, and shitty bands and music is shitty, but to someother person they would like it. i just dont understand people when they say they dont ever listen to music.

i guess it's hard to uniformally brand "shitty music" what is shitty to you might not be for me...
i like to push the boundaries of art - instead of immitating a classic verse chorus verse template. i think too, that this can backfire sometimes , like when you're trying so hard to create something sooooo progressive and different that it just becomes un-digestable crap... full spectrum with what you were trying so hard to change. I agree with Al, that there is a lot of beauty in minimalistic music, it's just unfortunate that we are over-exposed to so much shit that it can be easy to feel like never putting a cd in again.
to make a long story short - ya steve i feel your pain. and hey Al how's it goin? remember me? let me refresh your memory - whiskey, pancakes, jam, orange-juice, original child bomb, chilliwack.
understand?

it's the ever balancing scales of life.. the shitty music makes good music even better, or can be an inspiration to not imitate the shitiness...
though opinions of what's shitty and whats good are all over the place, as all good lessons it can apply solely to your personal taste

stu is such a smart cookie. the world needs more stu and less you hahaha the 'you' wasn't really directed at one in particular, it's just that my brillant minimalistic mind felt the need to create a brilliant minimalistic poem. different people are on different levels and everyone appreciates art according to their own level of understanding of that particular thing. if i didn't believe in absolutes i would probably say here that that is the reason why nothing is better than anything and every level of appreciation is equally valid. HOWEVER, i do believe there are absolutes because i believe there is a formula for everything, therefore there is higher levels of understanding. mediocrity has been and always will be a driving force to create something better. this all ties in with the basic principles of life if you think about it; your disgust at mediocrity demands something better ie: suffering is progress ie: life is suffering.

shitty bands playing shitty music don't bum me off music. in fact they make me appreciate it more and how much better the good bands playing good music actually are
