i love xiu xiu, as all of you do...
but what's the correct pronunciation of this band's name?
thanks.
EDIT by dr. stangelove: i've made this topic sticky so new people can read it without having to ask the same question repeatedly. please feel free to add comments

actually, I lived in China for a year and a half, and the "correct" way to pronounce it (as in how a Chinese person would say it) is something like:
"show show"
or
"shiow shiow"

"shiow shiow"
yeah, i'll second the extra i's. my sister speaks mandarin and that's how she says it...i think that's the most chinese pronunciation.
now why everyone feels so inclined to say "Zioux Zioux: The Sent Down Girl" is beyond me.

what part of china were you in?
because even in mandarin, there are pronunciation differences - the whole shi / si fiasco that occurs in the sout, for example.
that said, when i try to be snobby and say it properly, i tend to pronounce the x's more like x's should be generally. which i cannot type for the life of me. i guess sort of like making an sh sound without pushing your lips out.
i think you win extra bonus points if you do the tones correctly.

we've had this discussion before, and it always comes down to the same thing: different dialects allow for different pronunciations
jamie has said "shoe shoe" at every show i've seen him at, so i just stick to that pronunciation

I can understand the different pronounciations in China, but the band is named after the movie, right? And since the movie is named after the main character, it seems to me that the easiest way to learn the "correct" pronunciation would be to just go rent it and listen to how they say her name.

in the movie it's "show show", or more specifically, "sheeow sheeow"

maybe the x's are silent and the vowels can then be strung together to pronounce a "ooooooohhhh" sound. this way everyone wins. and arnold schwartzenegger is the worst actor in the history of film making.
