I know this is a hell of a long shot, but Owen, if you play The Pooka Sings in Hamilton on the 15th, you will make me the happiest man alive.

Can't do "The Pooka sings" but we're gonna play a 'blistering set'. Five new songs I think? There's a song called "The riverbed" that you might like it is very loud and distorted but in a soothing beautiful way. Feel free to tape it, we played a similar set in Norway and Eno said "that was the most fabulous performance I've seen in many, many years" soooo just saying, new songs good, tape away, I don't care.

The feedback we've been getting re: live show, in the few we've done in public and the few we've done for friends, is as follows. Old songs sound exploded like "you set Heartland on fire and a phoenix emerges" - Kevin. New songs sound "better than your old songs, like, kill them dead." - Ben.

I'm adding a lot of blue notes to the melodies now, lots of deliberately dissonant additions and subtractions. Lots of repetition and lots of repetition. I dunno, I'm really happy with how things are going so far and just wish I was a faster worker. I work long hours but make so many revisions that things just take a while with my own album-- in contrast to arrangements for others where I can just dish and dish. The new songs are very repetitious, did I mention that? They are, very.

Oh yeah, and whoever was like "you're gonna change them lyrics" to the song "Conflict reigns", well, they were right, I didn't just change the lyrics but I even added a chorus. And the song is now called "In conflict". I'd have given it a 7/10 before but now it's a definite 8.

Actual song titles are fluctuating but right now we're playing "Soldier's rock", "Infernal fantasy", "The sky behind the flag", "The riverbed", "The secret seven" and "In conflict". We're getting close to being able to play "Bridle and bit" but it's got a tricky melody + violin part that I haven't mastered. The other song is "Baiting the drones" and it's gonna be great on record but live it's not happening just yet. There are some solo tunes as well, "Song for five or six" is one but it's coy and not yet as solid as say "Scandal". "Vengeance" is another. There's a few songs that are so good with the orchestra but I have no idea how to play them live. This will be a good record.

AGFBWUIOHAGIHUWGOJ

THERES SOME ORCHESTRA ON THIS RECORD?!!!!!!

Orchestra's get me excited.

This sounds great and is super exciting! I'm stoked. Now are you still going with a smaller release this year and the big one next year? Because if this is the smaller release.... it sounds huge!

Or are you just doing one biggie?

Also people at the shows.... can some of you tape away?!!?!!! ???

The smaller release was a film score I wrote, but unfortunately the film has been held up and I won't be releasing it before the album. The album will be out next year (w/tour and singles and whatever)

In reference to your tweet about if it was acceptable to rhyme "triple sec" and "turtleneck" I'm so glad you did it. Thank you for keeping us in the loop (ha) about song development! I am beyond excited for all the new stuff

That was an incredible set at supercrawl this evening. Thanks Owen and co.!

Love all the new songs, and re-love all the old ones because of the band!

I honestly cannot wait for this new record.

That set was absolutely incredible! I didn't manage to nab one of the physical setlists but there seemed to be some variations from it regardless. This is what I managed to get down

Scandal At The Parkade [setlist said Butcher]
In Conflict
Midnight Directives
Soldier's Rock [setlist said Dog]
Tryst with Mephistopheles
Infernal Fantasy
Riverbed [this and infernal fantasy were switched on the setlist but the lyrics confirm the order]
This Is The Dream Of Win and Regine
Lewis Takes Off His Shirt
The Great Elsewhere
--
E is For Estranged
The Man With No Ankles

any corrections?

Haven't seen any of the new songs yet, but here are some old favorites performed with the band.

If I looked a little haggard, it's because I was/am suffering from a bout of minor (but ongoing) food poisoning. Losing a little weight as a result, need a nap and have a fever after every meal. Weirdly fully functional at all other times. Supercrawl was superfun thanks for coming.
