I drank so much last night, so much, an unbelievable, unconscionable amount of alcohol, I drank a bottle of beer after the show at Iðnó, and then another, and then some champagne from a bottle that Valgeir kindly gave us as a parting gift, and then a shot of Brennavin at a gay bar called Barbara, and then a shot of Jameson, and then Alex ordered a bottle of champagne, which we drank, and then I had some of Noah's beer, and some of Susanne's wine, and then another whiskey, and we were kicked out of the bar, it was 4:30am, and we went back to the hotel, then we raided the minibar, and I had a glass of red wine, and today, I don't have a hangover, although my body feels like a toxic waste dump, and I'm slow and stupid, and laughing at bad jokes, and unable to focus on things people are saying, and I'm talking trash in ways that I wouldn't normally, and despite all this, I'm impressed that a) I can have a (very rare) night of more-than-three-drinks and still stand, b) I was able to carry on several conversations in a state of inebriation with some lucidity, and c) I spent the entire day craving fried food-- which I had-- and feeling fat-- which I'm not-- but not even a little bit sorry for myself, not a moment, not even a second, in fact, I feel perfectly, happily, poisoned.
The liver is the phoenix of all the organs, while others wither and fail, the liver rises from the ashes. Liver Phoenix.
The embarrassing moment of the story is this. We went driving in the car today, and I was dozing in the backseat, mollified by a few pounds of flatbread and shrimp salad. The radio was on and suddenly, the most beautiful drum beat started, just the loveliest pounding, and it went on and on, and there were high, buzzing synthesizers, and I said, "what is this?" and I thought, "I want to write a song that sounds like this!" and I said, "let's make music that sounds like this!" and we turned it up and it was getting very exciting... and then suddenly my own voice comes in and I realize that I'm listening to an remix of "Shirt" that I hadn't heard before and I am shocked and embarrassed at this strange narcissism, and I was reminded of that urban legend of when Taylor Hanson saw a photo of a girl in Tigerbeat and thought she was really cute and then read the caption and realized he was looking at a photo of himself.
I'm sharing this information because I'm proud of this moment of self-assurance, but also, I want to track down this remix. I googled the song on Soundcloud and found nothing. Any leads would be very welcome.
